USFWS COLEMAN NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY
RETURN OF THE SALMON FESTIVAL
October 18 -
October 18, 2008
Festival activities are fun and family oriented. Major highlights at the festival include opportunity to view large adult Chinook salmon in the creek, in holding ponds and in a 35,000 gallon “Salmon Aquarium.” Salmon Spawning and Fish Tagging Operations can also be observed. Children also greatly enjoy “Salmon Croquet,” fish printing, “Storytime” by the US Forest Service, and a large chalk drawing area. The California Waterfowl Association puts on a great waterfowl display, and The Shasta Wildlife Rescue Center brings a host of live animals, including: raptors, owls, and crows. All in all, over 50 exhibitor/information booths are expected at the event. Displays and activities at the booths appeal to all ages and provide information related natural resource use and conservation.
The Festival, a one day event, has been put on since 1991. From 2000 thru 2007, visitation to the hatchery for the event has averaged about 10,000 with a high of over 15,000 visitors in 2007.
