Trails

Hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, equestrian, and off-road vehicle trails have been developed within a 15 mile radius of downtown Redding.

TrailsThe Sacramento River Trail which crosses the world famous Sundial Bridge in the heart of Redding and the Sacramento River Rail Trail which extends north all the way to Shasta Dam and sits alongside an historic abandoned railway have both been designated as National Recreation Trails in the National Trail System.

The area surrounding Shasta Lake as well as the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area both offer abundant unpaved trails that are very popular with single track bicyclists.

The mountains surrounding this growing river city-new home of the American Trails organization-also offer endless opportunities for great trail experiences. Castle Crags State Park offers unmatched views of Mt. Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park has numerous scenic trails that take visitors to bubbling mud pots, boiling lakes, and majestic vistas.

Remember to pack a few snacks and plenty of water, take along a light jacket for regional hikes, and, as always, Tread Lightly!
