THE PERFECT PAIRING: TOTS & CRAFT BEER AT WOODY'S BREWING COMPANY
By Dan Shepler | 05/16/2018 Cultural District, Downtown, Food and Drink, Local Breweries, Nightlife
Tucked away near the heart of downtown Redding, Woody’s Brewing Company is a flavorful and refreshing experience. This family-owned-and-operated establishment produces some of the tastiest pairings of food and beer found in Northern California. They offer a quite extensive beer list, and their food menu is a delicious spin what you would expect to find at a pub. Tater tots, calamari, wings, fish and chips, and burgers are just a few of their options.I’ve heard a lot of locals talking about Woody’s so one day I decided to head in for a mid-week lunch to experience it for myself. Upon...  Read More
5 WATERFALLS IN A DAY: REDDING'S WATERFALL LOOP
By Dan Shepler | 05/11/2018 Great Outdoors, Trails, Waterfalls
Redding boasts some of the most premier outdoor opportunities of any city that I have ever been to. There is so much to do and see in every direction. One of my favorite day trips in the area is a waterfall tour visiting Lion Slide Falls (aka Hatchet Creek), Burney Falls, and the three McCloud River Falls (Middle pictured above). It makes for a fun day with friends or family and takes you through some of the most iconic landscapes and vistas in UpState California and lets you return back to your hotel to rest up for another day of...  Read More
CRAFT BEER & FOOD TRUCK FRIDAY'S AT WILDCARD BREWING CO.'S TIED HOUSE
By Dan Shepler | 04/27/2018 Downtown, Food and Drink, Local Breweries
Redding’s food and drink scene is on the rise. There are new places popping up all over town and each bringing its own unique experience. One of my personal favorites is Wildcard Brewing Co. It's a relatively new brewery so everything is clean and shiny, and their tasty beers are always refreshing. The majority of the brews are limited edition batches so almost every time you go there is something new and fun to try. Last year, Wildcard put out over 50 unique beers, which they serve at their two locations: the Tied House, which is the downtown location, and...  Read More

THE NEW MOSAIC RESTAURANT LEAVES A LASTING IMPRESSION
By Dan Shepler | 03/13/2018 Food and Drink, Italian/Pizza, Redding Originals
The Mosaic Restaurant, the new hot spot in Redding, offers California style cuisine with an upbeat and lively atmosphere. I headed in for dinner one evening around 5:00 p.m. It looked pretty busy and there was a short wait for a table. Not a problem, spots were available at the bar to get a drink in the meantime. The bartender recommended the Sac Smash, a delicious spin on a margarita made with ginger, agave, lemon juice, and basil. She mixed one up to perfection and I sipped on while looking over the menu. The charcuterie board looks good.Table ready. Within moments...  Read More

When the weather is good, the Redding area is a hidden gem of riding in NorCal. The Redding area prides itself in offering abundant outdoor activities that range between house boating on Shasta Lake, hiking Trinity Alps, fishing, and more recently cycling. Always known for having a terrific mountain bike scene that can be accessed from the Swasey Recreation Area on Swasey Road or the East Keswick trails off of Quartz Hill Road, the BLM has recently constructed a network of paved bike paths from downtown Redding to Shasta Lake.Paved bike paths in California come in one of two varieties: those...  Read More
