Craft beer & food truck Friday's at Wildcard Brewing Co.'s Tied House

By Dan Shepler | 04/27/2018 Downtown, Food and Drink, Local Breweries

Redding’s food and drink scene is on the rise. There are new places popping up all over town and each bringing its own unique experience. One of my personal favorites is Wildcard Brewing Co. It's a relatively new brewery so everything is clean and shiny, and their tasty beers are always refreshing. The majority of the brews are limited edition batches so almost every time you go there is something new and fun to try. Last year, Wildcard put out over 50 unique beers, which they serve at their two locations: the Tied House, which is the downtown location, and the Brewhouse on the east side of town.

I headed into the downtown Tied House one Friday evening for a frothy pint. The place was pretty busy with locals sharing their excitement for the weekend while enjoying good conversation, and laughing at work-week experiences. There was a local food truck parked out front that was producing some very appetizing smells. I decided to belly up to the bar for a drink first. Wildcard puts out some incredible IPA’s and the menu typically offers a few different ones at any given time. The bartender recommended The Crowd Pleaser, a juicy IPA with citrus and tropical notes. It sounded delicious, but so did several of the others. I opted for a flight to get a taste all of them.

After the first round, I ran into Wildcard founders and owners Jeff and Jenny Hansen. They were there enjoying the fruits of their labors and were kind enough to tell me more about their brewery and some of the upcoming events. There were three weekly events that stood out and are worth mentioning. Wednesdays: $3 off growler refills; Fridays: Food Truck Friday; Saturdays: FREE Brewhouse tours at 4:30 p.m. (see the full list of the events below).

We ordered another round, I went with a fresh The Crowd Pleaser as the citrus and tropical flavors we too hard to resist, and they continued to share their journey of how they ended up opening a brewery in Redding. The conversation went on till our pints ran out and it was time for them to head home. I thanked them for a great evening and we said our goodbyes. They took off and I was left figure out what to do next. Here it was Food Truck Friday and I was getting hungry. I decided to cash out at the bar and to head outside to see if I could find the source of those incredible smells.

Midweek Madness - Wednesday's
Visit either location on Wednesday and get $3 off a 64oz growler fill.

Food Truck - Friday's & Saturday's
Downtown Tied House - Friday's from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday's from noon to 3 p.m.
Wildcard brings you the best of both worlds' a frothy pint and a flavorful plate with local food truck vendors who feature some good eats.

Brewhouse Tours - Saturday's at 4:30 p.m.
Find out what goes on behind the scenes at Wildcard with a free tour. This is your chance to see their mad cornhole skills, see the brewmaster balance while climbing up on top of a tank to add hops, get soaked with beer as the bung on the bourbon barrel bursts and showers the building. All kidding aside, Wildcard hopes that if you're interested in craft beer, you'll feel welcome to tag along on a quick tour and see how they are made. Reservations would be complicated and unnecessary so come one, come all.
