Let Freedom...Boom

By | 04/29/2014

Redding is famous for many things: it's the best trout fishing town in the western USA, it's the trails capital of California with 225+ miles of biking and walking trails within 15 miles of the city, it's the sunniest place on the west coast with the cleanest air in the state, home of the world largest sundial, and is the prettiest town on the planet. (that last one is subjective.)

Every year more and more people discover that Redding also hosts the best 4th of July party within hundreds of miles. The sprawling lawn at the Redding Civic Center is the epicenter of Redding's fabled fireworks show, where thousands gather with blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks to enjoy the vendors, live music, good company and, after the sun sets, spectacular fireworks. Thousands more will plant themselves across the street at Sequoia Middle School, or along the Sundial Bridge,or anchored in the Sacramento name it, there's a place to watch the show. And it's not a few bottle rockets, folks. Huge, sky-filling bursts of color and a show that lasts 30 minutes or more and attracts visitors from all over. If you're looking for a great place to celebrate Independence Day, Redding should be at the top your list.

Aside from the epic fireworks, the day time fun can include hiking to waterfalls, houseboating and wakeboarding on the lake, stand up paddle boarding or kayaking around the marina, shopping, dining, and entertainment, exploring Lassen National Park, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and historic Old Shasta, touring the record-holding Shasta Dam, and much more. Redding has hotels, bed and breakfasts, and RV parks to accommodate you, but they fill up fast for the Freedom Festival! Don't get left out of this family-friendly, memory-making citywide party- the largest fireworks show in Northern California. This year's Freedom Festival will be even bigger than years past, since it's the grand finale of the Celebrate 10 festival of events honoring the 10 year anniversary of the Sundial Bridge. You might as well just come for the whole 2 weeks!
