The Perfect Pairing: Tots & Craft Beer at Woody's Brewing Company

Tucked away near the heart of downtown Redding, Woody’s Brewing Company is a flavorful and refreshing experience. This family-owned-and-operated establishment produces some of the tastiest pairings of food and beer found in Northern California. They offer a quite extensive beer list, and their food menu is a delicious spin what you would expect to find at a pub. Tater tots, calamari, wings, fish and chips, and burgers are just a few of their options.

I’ve heard a lot of locals talking about Woody’s so one day I decided to head in for a mid-week lunch to experience it for myself. Upon walking through the front door, I was met by friendly staff and asked if I had a seating preference. “The bar works great!” 

Once up at the bar, I could see their full beer list along with the descriptions. The bartender came up with a smile on her face asking me what I wanted to drink. I informed her that this was my first visit to Woody’s, to which she replied: “You got to try the Hazed and Confused IPA.” Her recommendation sounded great. She poured one up and set it in front of me. The place was fairly busy for lunchtime. Following the inaugural sip of my first Woody’s beer, I glanced around to get an idea of what people were eating. Just to see if there was a dish that caught my eye. Tater Tots seemed to be the hot item everyone was enjoying. The bartender mentioned “We are known for our tater tots. You have to try them!” Without even missing a beat, I heard the words “One order of tater tots and your Smokehouse Burger please!” come out of my mouth.

The atmosphere of Woody’s is pretty low-key and friendly. The kind of place you can enjoy a book or ponder life over a beer. (At least during the day, I am sure that things liven up in the evenings.) The bottom of my glass started to come into view by the time the appetizer showed up. As the bartender placed the piping hot, deep-fried goodness in front of me she asked if I needed another round. There were several options on the menu that sounded good, but she suggested their Apricot Wheat to go with the food. The rest lunch was a blur - of ketchup, carbonated refreshment, dirty of napkins, and attempting to fit my mouth around the burger. Fat and happy, I settled up and made my way to the door. Smiling at the hostess on the way. “Thanks! I’ll be back soon.”
