Just minutes from Redding, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is an outdoor lover’s paradise with majestic waterfalls, sandy beaches, hundreds of miles of trails to explore, and year-round boating and paddling.

Just east of Redding is the unique Lassen Volcanic National Park, with mountain scenery reminiscent of Yosemite and thermal wonders similar to Yellowstone, without the crowds. Adventurers enjoy the trails while others relax with lakeside strolls and birdwatching in flowering meadows. In the winter, the park offers cross-country skiing and free snowshoe tours. The park’s summertime Dark Sky Festival draws stargazers from all over the West.

To the north Castle Crags State Park towers above waiting for eager hikers to explore the 28 miles of hiking trails. If you take on the 5.5-mile, 2,000-foot elevation gain, Castle Dome Trail you will be rewarded with some of the most breath-taking views Mt. Shasta, the Grey Rocks, and Castle Dome.
